The fans have spoken! The 2024 People’s Choice Awards aired on February 18th, honoring the best in movies, television, music and pop culture as voted by the public. Hosted by Simu Liu, the star-studded event was broadcast live from the Barker Hangar in Santa Monica, California.
With 45 categories celebrating the entertainment highlights of the past year, the People’s Choice Awards gave fans the chance to honor their favorites. Pop culture icon Adam Sandler was presented with the People’s Icon Award, while music legend Lenny Kravitz received the Music Icon Award. The biggest winners of the night included singer Taylor Swift and the film Barbie, each taking home multiple awards.

Movies Take Center Stage At 2024 People’s Choice Awards

It was a huge night for the Mattel film Barbie, which led the movie categories with 7 total wins. The musical comedy starring Margot Robbie and Ryan Gosling took home the coveted Movie of the Year award, beating out hits like Top Gun: Maverick and Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse. In addition, both Robbie and Gosling won Individual Movie Star awards for their performances as the iconic dolls.
Barbie also won big for Comedy Movie of the Year. America Ferrera took home the Movie Performance of the Year trophy for her scene-stealing role in the film. Ferrera gave an emotional acceptance speech, thanking fans and calling Barbie a “bold, inspiring masterpiece.” Clearly, audiences couldn’t get enough of the bright and bubbly new take on the classic toy.

While Barbie ruled the comedy categories, the drama Oppenheimer was also a major movie winner. The Christopher Nolan film about the development of the atomic bomb won for Drama Movie of the Year. Cillian Murphy’s acclaimed performance in the title role earned him the Drama Movie Star of the Year award.

Other movie cting awards went to Scream queen Jenna Ortega for her terrifying turn in Scream VI and comedy favorite Jennifer Lawrence for No Hard Feelings.
Rachel Zegler picked up the Action Movie Star trophy for her role as a tribute in The Hunger Games prequel The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes.

On the music front, Taylor Swift dominated with 5 total wins. She took home Female Artist of the Year, Pop Artist of the Year, and Concert Tour of the Year for her Eras stadium tour. Her 10-minute version of “All Too Well” also won Song of the Year. Swift was named Social Celebrity of the Year by fans, recognizing her close relationship with her devotees.

Grey’s Anatomy took home the biggest TV prize of Show of the Year, beating out hits like Only Murders in the Building.
Pedro Pascal earned Male TV Star of the Year for his gripping performance in the HBO smash The Last of Us, which also won for Drama Show of the Year.
Jennifer Aniston continued her awards show domination, earning Female Drama TV Star for The Morning Show. Other TV acting trophies went to Selena Gomez for Only Murders in the Building and Jeremy Allen White for his turn as a volatile chef in The Bear.
