Reality TV lovers everywhere have probably tuned into Netflix’s My Unorthodox Life. The show follows Julia Haart who is the CEO of Elite World Group as she balances a career, family and opens up about leaving an Orthodox Jewish community. One person who is part of her story is Haart’s now-husband Silvio Scaglia, who she recently wed in 2019. Haart mentions how it took her years to be honest with Scaglia about her previous marriage, and religion.

There are plenty of reality shows that show people moving on from their religious backgrounds. Shows such as The Real Housewives of Salt Lake City depict cast members who are no longer part of the Mormon community. Just like many of them, after leaving, Haart now has a successful business and a happy marriage.
Haart aside from being the CEO of Elite World Group owns other companies. Also, she is the owner of Julia Haart shoes and in 2016 became the Creative Director of La Perla. The couple met right after Scaglia bought La Perla in 2015, but it wasn’t love at first sight. Despite, being in a happy marriage the couple’s working relationship consisted of constant bickering which led to friendship.
Who is Silvio Scaglia?
Aside from the couple’s interesting love story, Silvio Scaglia also has an interesting story. Silvio is an Italian entrepreneur and he is the founder of Fastweb, an Italian telecommunications company. He is also the founder of Freedom Holding which controls Elite World Group. You don’t have this many companies without having an impressive net worth, according to Forbes, Silvio’s net worth is over $1 billion!
Just like so many businessmen, he has found himself in some predicaments with the law. In 2010, Silvio was among 56 people who were arrested for allegedly being involved in a $2.7 billion tax and money laundering scheme. Also, this was all allegedly part of a ring with mafia ties happening between 2003 and 2006. These charges are not small, and he was accused of criminal conspiracy to commit tax fraud.
Following these charges, he spent a year in prison and also on house arrest. The entrepreneur’s then-wife, Monica Aschei, was able to get him acquitted in 2013, by publishing a letter to Italy’s president on his behalf.
How Julia Haart & Silvio Scaglia Met

“He was the CEO [of La Perla]. So he was there a lot. The first year of our interaction was me yelling at him. I was horrible to him. But I had a lot of respect for him…and when I yelled at him, he took it like a man. That made me happy.” She tells Oprah Daily.
Over time the couple managed to build a great friendship, and the friendship led to something more. Unlike many people, it wasn’t very easy for Haart to be honest about her past with Scaglia. “My husband knew me for probably two years before I told him one word about my past. Even after I told close friends, I never spoke about it. You’ll see there’s no press about it anywhere,” she says to Oprah Daily.
Haart Opens Up About Her Past
After spending years with Scaglia, Haart decides it’s time to let him know about her last marriage. When Haart was only 19-years-old she married Yosef Hendler in an arranged marriage and had 4 kids with him. Aside from being very young, being in an arranged marriage had its ups and downs. “Before, marriage was a prison,” Haart says. “Now I realize that you can be married, you can love someone, and you can still have your own freedom and individuality, and I think that’s beautiful. I love love.” She shares in her interview with Oprah Daily.
The fashion designer shares stories in My Unorthodox Life about leaving the Jewish community, which her ex-husband also eventually did. “my ex-husband is a modern-Orthodox Jew now. He has left the community. He’s moving into another community, actually as we speak, which is really exciting for me. And yet, he sent me a text last week, and he was like, ‘Julia, thank you. I’m so much happier now.”
Her ex-husband seems to keep a pretty low profile and there isn’t much information about him, but their relationship is much better now. Haart and Scaglia continue having a powerful marriage after 2 years. Their marriage has a different dynamic than her first, according to her, Scaglia respects her independence, and he even took her last name!
