Let’s face it, we all get bored with our hair now and again. Especially, in the hot summer months. It’s just too easy to throw it all up into a pony and forget about it. But, there are so many half-up half-down hairstyles that look beautiful and will still help to keep your hair in place.
If you have medium to long hair, then there is so much potential for what you could be doing every day. And, yes, it takes time to look good. But, isn’t looking good apart of NYC life? You gotta dress to impress, am I right?
So, get out the curler, the pomade, and spray, and get ready to experiment. Because laziness is so not in the NYC vocabulary.
Check out our favorite half-up half-down hairstyles:
The Celtic Knot
This super cute Celtic knot is perfect for the office or a cute afternoon picnic date in Central Park. It looks intricate, but it’s not too hard to twist your hair the right way in order to pull off this totally unique look.
Double Buns
This grungey punk-rock inspired look is the epitome of NYC in the 80s and 90s. Pair it with some leather and fishnet and you’ve got yourself a complete look that people will be dying to copy.
The double-bun look is also guaranteed to keep the hair out of your face on those hot summer days. This is a style you could even rock at the hotel pool.
Top-Knot
This simple top-knot doesn’t incorporate all of the hair. Instead, it leaves most of the hair down, still showing off your lengthy locks.
The half-up half-down top-knot is an easy way to make a basic style look chic. It takes less than five minutes to master. And, it’s a great everyday look.
Double French Braids
This double french-braided look runs from the front of the head, along the natural curve of the skull until it blends into the length of the hair. The look is pretty easy to master, as long as you know how to french braid.
The fierce braided look is best paired with some combat boots and a gold chain. Or, you can glam it up with a bow or two for a completely different look.
Pony & Poof
The pony and poof style is a classic for any NYGal. It creates volume on the top of the head, bringing the look from basic to glam. And, the pony does a fantastic job of keeping the flyaways at bay.
To spice up the look, add some loose curls and maybe some ribbon for an ultra-girly look.
French Twist Half-Up-Half-Down
Ah, the French Twist! There is nothing sweeter and more Southern than this style. So, if you’re on your way to a country music festival, then you definitely have to pair this with your fringe and cowboy boots. Yee-haw!
Also, this look is totally not as hard as it seems. Here’s a quick video to help you achieve this lovely style.
Waterfall Braid
There are so many types of braids that you can incorporate into a half-up-half-down style. And, this is one of our favorites!
The waterfall braid is loose and falls…you guessed it…like a waterfall, gently down the length of your hair. The great thing about this braid is that it blends into your hair and doesn’t compromise its length- so everyone will see that you have beautiful healthy locks.
Braid & Pony
This braid and pony duo is a perfect style for everyday wear. The pony is simple, while the braid adds a little extra flair for a totally unique look.
The braid to pony style is also versatile. Feel free to add multiple French braids to the top instead of one. Or, even continue the braids into the pony. The possibilities are endless!
Hair Bow
This style came out a few years ago and we are still not over it. The literal hair bow is ideal for the girl who is feminine and flirty.
Pair this hairstyle with a tutu skirt and some ballet flats and you have yourself an overall look designed for a princess. Don’t forget the sparkles!
