About The Resident
The series The Resident follows the lives of a group of doctors at Chastain Memorial Hospital revolves around the medical cases they have to solve daily and the challenges posed in their professional and personal lives.
The series shows what it is like to be a doctor through the different stages of one’s career. It primarily focuses on three prominent doctors’ lives and careers: Dr. Conrad Hawkins, played by Matt Czchry; Dr. Devon Pravesh, played by Manish Dayal and Dr. Randolph Bell, played by Bruce Greenwood.
Bruce Greenwood’s Role on The Resident
Dr. Randolph Bell is the former CEO and Chief Of Surgery at Chastain Park Memorial Hospital. When the series began in Season 1, Dr. Randolph was the seeming villain of the story. The first episode’s opening scene shows Dr. Randolph making a horrible mistake while operating on a patient, which leads to their death. Due to his stellar record at the hospital and not wanting to ruin his reputation, he orders the staff to put his mistake on a medical condition the patient did not have.
It would later be revealed that it was not the first time he has made a mistake in the operating room. His mistakes are due to a medical condition he has, a tremor in his hands. This has made his complication rates soar as compared to other doctors, and he seemingly cares more for his reputation than the lives he is putting at risk; he gains the nickname HODAD (.Hands of Death and Destruction)

Bell rises to become CEO through treacherous means. He sometimes coerces his patients to use him as their doctor and even writes his own reviews. However, his behavior changed as the series progresses, and he even loses the horrible nickname after his tremor is treated. He has been married twice and divorced in the series. By the end of season four, he becomes a better person and even forms meaningful friendships with other doctors at Chastain Memorial Hospital.
