Most people love a good horror film, maybe not particularly the kind where eight people get brutally murdered and maimed in the first few minutes, but the kind that gets adrenaline pumping nonetheless. Unearth is one film that will keep you hooked on your screens, especially when one of the leading roles is played by the very talented Marc Blucas, you know it’s going to be a good one.
Who is Marc Blucas?
Marc Blucas is a renowned American actor who has had the pleasure of starring in many leading films. He was born in Butler, Pennsylvania on 11th January 1972 to parents Walter Joseph Blucas and mother Mary Catherine. As a young boy, he played basketball throughout high school and even earned all-state honors and a sports scholarship for leading his school to the State championship.
The talented actor made his first debut in the film industry with the movie Inflammable in 1995. His basketball background led him to bag a role in Pleasantville, a film by Garry Ross where he played a Basketball hero. His major role was landing the role of Agent Riley Finn in the renowned series Buffy the Vampire Slayer. He has gone on to star in films such as We Were Soldiers, Summer Catch, First Daughter, Necessary Roughness, and TV drama True Blue to name a few.
Marc Blucas got married on 25th July 2009 to his journalist sweetheart Ryan Haddon. Together they have two beautiful daughters while also being a stepfather to two of Ryan’s children from her first marriage. He currently lives in rural Pennsylvania with his small family.
About the Eco-horror film Unearth
Unearth is a fracking horror story that follows the lives of two leading neighboring farm families. Pushed to the edge by economic hardships, George Lomack (played by Marc Blucas) decides to lease his land to an oil and gas company. This puts a strain on his relationship with his neighbor Kathryn Dolan (Adrienne Barbeau) who wants to protect their lands.
Unbeknownst any to any of them, beneath the grounds lies great horrors. Drilling deep into the earth releases something horrific and unexpected that not only starts to get the people sick but also kills them. The story brings to light the risks and repercussions that come with living with the choices we make and those who suffer for them.
Things to love about Marc Blucas in the Film
Despite his shortcomings in the film, you cannot help but admire the character played by Marc Blucas in the film. He has his bad side, but here are five reasons to love him.
His dedication to his family
Marc Blucas works very hard to provide for his family. As a father of two, he works as a car mechanic at his garage business to try and keep his family going. But this proves not to be enough, he exhausts every possible avenue to be a better father. He only agrees to lease his land to the oil and gas company so he can get money for his family.
He does his best as a single parent
I think it is important to note that Marc Blucas is a single parent doing his best. His wife left him with their two daughters. He does not run away from his responsibilities as a Dad and tries to do everything possible to provide for his two daughters. Blucas remains a loving father to his children despite the issues he had with their mother.
He is a good grandfather
When his daughter Kim gets pregnant he tries to be there for her as much as possible. Financially he is already deep in debt and barely surviving it. He tries to scrape money for Kim’s hospital bills after her birth. He is greatly worried by the lack of money that he is driven into alcoholism. This shows that he is deeply concerned and cares about the well-being of his daughter and grandbaby Reece.
He is pitiful
There is something about a man struggling not for his accord but for that of others that endears people to him. Marc Blucas’s life brings such strong sadness and pain into the film that you just want to show him some love and protect him from the horrors of what is unearthed. The man has suffered enough trying to keep his family afloat that you just want to give him a pass for being the seeming villain.
He is remorseful
Marc Blucas is a man who comes to see the error of his ways. While we understand why he had to do what he did, it is important that seeing how things turned out that he regrets the choices he made. He is so heartbroken when he realizes how much his choices have affected people in the community and that he is responsible for the lives ruined. We cannot help but join in his heartbreak.
