On the last day of the year, little Aisha was eagerly waiting to watch Harry Potter and The Chamber of Secrets with her parents.
She woke up in the morning and brushed her teeth. After dancing and fluttering around for a while, little Aisha prayed to Lord Jesus, ‘Dear Lord! Today I want a family Harry Potter night with my mommy and daddy! Please make it happen?’
Aisha spent the lazy afternoon painting family portraits and decorating the house with a ‘New Year’ welcoming theme, scented candles, and lights! She had read somewhere, ‘the lights will guide you home’ and she knew, if her parents were lost in the way, ‘the lights will guide them back home!’
Aisha cleaned herself up and put on her red little dress and a matching pair of shoes, like the little Red Riding Hood. She waited eagerly to observe her parent’s reactions. How delighted would be Mommy, when she will notice the house was all clean and ready to greet the new year!
Alas! To her astonishment, mommy and daddy hardly seemed to notice anything. Mommy slammed the main door with noise and yelled, ‘Aisha! Just go to your room now!’
‘But Mum! Harry Potter starts sharp at 8 o’clock!’
‘No Harry Potter tonight! Mum and daddy’s got some emergencies to handle! Now don’t be a crybaby okay?’
Aisha struggled hard to even utter ‘But, you promised..’
‘Take my iPad and watch the film online okay?’
Aisha gulped down her tears and fought hard to control them until she was safe and invisible under the blanket. It somehow made her feel like the ‘invisible cloak’ of Harry Potter!
Soon she was fast asleep. In her dreams, her granda appeared, dressed like Cinderella’s Fairy Godmother!
Aisha rushed over to hug her and burst out in tears. ‘No one has time for me in this house..’ she sobbed.
Her voice cracked a bit as she said, ‘Grandma! Why can’t you and grandpa be with me all the time? You know mum and dad are always busy!’
Grandma kissed little Aisha and made her sit on her lap. She fondled Aisha’s brown wavy hair and said, ‘ Dear baby, adulting is not easy. You should feel lucky every day because you have no responsibilities, other than studying and taking care of yourself!’
‘You see, I and your grandpa watch over you all the time. Just be kind to your mum and dad okay? They are just dealing with too much right now. One day, when you grow up, you’ll realize how much they love you, just like your Harry Potter!’
Aisha was about to say, ‘ But I feel lonely..’ when she was suddenly awakened by a loud crying, that seemed like a baby boy!
Oh boy! It’s freezing cold outside!
Aisha quickly picked up her hoodie, mask, and a pair of gloves and rushed towards the main door.
She opened the door and found a black and white flower basket, where three little kitties lay hidden under a soft warm cushion and a few colorful yarn balls!
Underneath, lay a note, ‘Now you’ll never be lonely again! Just be kind, always!’
