Disney superheroes and movies are getting more diverse with time, and we love to see it! The live-action adaptation of Walt Disney’s animated film Mulan brought a whole new adventure and appreciation of the Chinese culture. Many fans petitioned Disney not to create a ‘whitewashed Mulan’ as it was based on China’s legendary warrior. Actor Yoson An was a great addition to the film, and he did justice to the role of Chen Hongui, Mulan’s love interest.

Who is Yoson An?

Yoson An is a Chinese actor and filmmaker born on the 22nd of June, 1992. He was born in China but moved to New Zealand to seek better economic opportunities. Eventually, he settled with his family in Auckland, and he has three younger sisters. He studied English at the International School in Macau. Additionally, he can fluently speak Cantonese and Mandarin. In Auckland, he attended Saint Kentigern College and studied music.

His acting career began in 2012 where got involved in minor roles on television before getting his big break with a leading role in the film Ghost bride and Mega Time Squad.

Since then, he has featured in many films, including Mortal Engines, The Meg, and Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragons.

After trying to break it even in the film industry in New Zealand without much success, he decided to pursue better opportunities in Australia. He felt that the Australian film industry had more room for multicultural representation than New Zealand.

Yoson got a significant leading role in the film Dead Lucky which was huge for his career as he starred alongside Rachel Griffins. His most significant breakthrough came when he made his debut in the American cinema as a character in Walt Disneys’ live-action adaptation of the film Mulan. The movie, which did really good also made him a favorite with the fans.

What ethnicity is Yoson An

Yoson An is Chinese. He was born in China but moved with his parents to New Zealand at a young age. Despite not going through the Chinese education system, Yoson An has learned to speak Mandarin and Cantonese fluently. He dated someone from Taiwan who contributes to helping him polish his Mandarin. He cannot, however, read or write in Chinese, but he can recognize Han characters.

The talented young man is not too cut off from his Chinese ethnic group as he has learned and trained in some popular sports with the Chinese people. He is greatly experienced in martial arts, and he has a black belt in karate. He also likes to practice ninjutsu, kickboxing, Olympic weightlifting, and powerlifting. His penmanship in karate essentially helped to execute the role of Chen Hongui in the film Mulan.

Yoson An is pretty good at many things. Looking past his painstakingly handsome features and his beautiful smile, he has many other talents. As mentioned earlier, he has a black belt in karate which is not easy to attain. Here are some other things you probably didn’t know about the actor.

He is a good sketch artist

I mean, is there anything this man can’t do? Yoson An has taken to social media o several occasions to share pictures of sketches he has drawn, mostly pencil art, and we have to admit the man has serious potential. He is very humble about his craft and often tries to downplay how good the sketches are, but the talent speaks for itself.

He loves his wine and has a sweet tooth

Okay, ladies, is he the perfect man or what? A man that loves wine surely knows the way to a lady’s heart. I don’t know if the ladies love him more for this factor for his looks! But either way, the actor has confessed to loving his wine a little more. He also has a sweet tooth and enjoys icecreams, cakes, and milkshakes.

He was a Mulan Fan Long before he got the role

Can you imagine being a part of one of your favorite animations as a child? Well, that happened; Yoson An got to live inside one of his dreams. He has revealed that the 1998 Walt Disney animation film Mulan was his favorite, and he always got very excited and happy watching it at his grandparents’ house. Getting to star in the live-action adaption of the film was beyond his wildest dreams.

He is down to earth

Despite his well-earned celebrity status, Yoson An is pretty down-to-earth. He has revealed that he loves the simple things in life. Unlike other celebrities, he is not into the flashy lifestyle and prefers to do simple things that he enjoys, like boat riding.

He loves animals

An animal lover at heart, Yoson is pretty fond of animals and not just because they are cute and cuddly but also as meditation partners. He likes to have a great connection with everything around him, and he uses crystals, white sage, and stones to help him achieve peace and maintain his connection with the world around him.

Not much is know about Yoson An’s current dating life, but as far as marriage is concerned, we are sure he is still unmarried. There is still hope ladies!
