As a woman in NYC, it can be hard to find a good job.
And, that’s because what goes into finding a good employer consists of a lot of factors.
It has to pay well, provide rewarding work, challenge you and help you build your professional career.
But, one thing that is equally important is how the company treats its female employees.
It might be 2018, but there are still a number of companies out there that just don’t treat women fairly or equally.
19 percent of female workers say that their gender makes it more difficult for them to succeed at their job.
That’s a huge discrepancy from the 7 percent of men that say their gender negatively affects them.
And, that’s just one statistic that points out the fact that not all companies treat women equally.
It’s oftentimes harder for women to get a position than it is for a man. Similarly, women often get paid less, are afforded fewer promotion and raise opportunities, and aren’t offered the same advancement opportunities.
Luckily, there are a number of companies in the city that do understand the importance of their female workforce. And you can see that in how they treat their female employees. From benefits to supplementary groups and activities and everything in between, these companies invest in their women employees.
Forbes compiled a list of the 300 best companies for female workers this year. And, more than 20 of those companies are based in New York.
The list was compiled using data collected through surveys. These surveys asked a number of gender-specific questions related to pay, office behaviors, and parental leave.
Here are just a few of the companies that Forbes and other publications have named as top companies for female workers:
1. New Avon
New Avon came in at number 16 on the list, making it the highest-ranking New York City-based company on the list.
Avon is a leading beauty seller in the world. The Avon brand is known for cosmetic, health and beauty supplies, fashion accessories and more.
And, its dedication to its female workforce is powerful and robust. It makes women feel comfortable, safe and able to thrive and grow in their careers.
Flexible working hours and almost 4 weeks of PTO to start are some of the perks working mothers can expect from New Avon. Additionally, mothers get 10 weeks of paid maternity leave, maternity coaching and more while they plan and start a new family.
2. Estee Lauder Companies
Estee Lauder Companies is another leader when it comes to beauty and cosmetics. It’s a brand with a number of well-known names under its belt. It’s a brand that sells skincare, perfumes, makeup and more.
But, it’s not just its robust product line that makes a statement. This company was ranked 22 on this list. And, that’s because it’s a company that cares about its women employees. It does everything in its power to make sure women can spread their wings and thrive.
Employees at Estee Lauder can expect 20 weeks of paid family leave. They also get the flexibility of working from home, women’s leadership networks and more.
3. H&M
H&M is a fashion and accessories retailer. And, it’s a well-known brand for affordable clothing in the city of New York and beyond.
H&M came in at number 23 on the list.
From comprehensive benefits packages to an open an honest mission statement, H&M is a company that truly does care.
H&M provides its female employees with a truly exceptional work-life balance.

4. New York University
NYU is the first non-e-commerce institution in NYC on this list. And, that’s because it’s important that women have a safe place to work in the educational space as well.
So, if you’re a woman in education, you should definitely keep New York University in your sights.
New York University scored 24 on this list. And, that’s a result of this company and its dedication to fostering a positive and engaging office environment and company culture.

5. Penguin Random House
Penguin Random House is an American book publisher. And, it clocked in at number 58 on Forbe’s list of best companies in the United States for women.
This company is made up of a strong and talented female workforce. And, it is continuously learning and growing with the evolving environment. This makes it a prime destination for women in the city looking for a company that is progressive and transparent.
Free books, a positive work-life balance, and more — if those aren’t enough a reason to work for this publisher, I don’t know what is.
6. Deloitte
Deloitte is a professional company that offers auditing, accounting, tax consulting and other financial services for brands and businesses the world over.
It’s a multinational corporation that runs an extensive network of professional services. So, it must house exceptional talent — making it the perfect environment for women looking to learn and grow in the professional market.
Deloitte was ranked 69 on the list. And, that’s a result of their passion for education, growth, and innovation.

But, it makes this list at 98 thanks to its comprehensive benefits and heavy investment in fostering a positive and enriching environment.
The environment at Conde Nast is friendly and welcoming. And, the number of female executives makes it very clear the obvious opportunities for growth women in the city can benefit from.
9. TIAA
TIAA is a financial services institution. It provides key services for educational, governmental, and medical organizations. The banking and financial services this company offers are invaluable.
And, that’s exactly how they see their female workforce. Considering they scored a 123 on this list also shows that they’re a company any female in NYC should consider investing time and energy into.
TIAA employees get 16 weeks of paid family leave. And health care coverage was recently expanded to include IVF and other fertility treatments. These are just a few of the exciting perks women at TIAA have to look forward to.
10. IPG Media Brands
IPG Media Brands is a media-focused organization known for exceptional marketing and advertising services.
It came in at 130 on the list. But, that doesn’t mean it doesn’t care about women — it still beat out hundreds of companies in NYC for women.
This company has employees and clients across the world. And, with that experience and expertise, they’ve been able to create a company culture that is inviting, equal and fair for all.
