We all have skeletons in our closets, things we would rather not come to light. Things that quite frankly are no one’s damn business! But over the last few months, 25-year music industry vet Jaguar Wright has decided to make seemingly everyone else’s business hers – and ours!
What exactly is behind these recent outbursts and allegations against some of the music industry’s biggest names? Let’s dive into that a little and see precisely who Jaguar Wright is and go over some of the big names she has recently attacked!
Exactly Who is Jaguar Wright
Jaguar Wright, whose real name is Jacquelyn Suzette Wright-Johnson, was born on May 17, 1977. The controversial American singer was born and raised in New Jersey before moving to Philadelphia at the age of 12.
You do not spend over 25-years in the music industry without loads of talent and staying power; both things Wright definitely has had. Not only is she a gifted neo-soul and R&B singer, but Wright is also an accomplished songwriter and narrator.
The multi-talented singer-songwriter has worked with some of the biggest names in R&B and hip-hop. Groups like The Roots, Blackalicious, and even megastar Jay-Z have all performed alongside Wright at various points in their careers.
Wright’s Impressive Music Career
Jaguar Wright’s impressive career began in 1998 when the hip-hop group The Roots first took notice of her. Wright would perform with the group off and on for a few years, even touring with them for a while.
In 2001 Wright began performing as a backup singer for the hip-hop industry legend Jay-Z. Her career began to gain steam at this point. The singer gained a bit of mainstream notoriety in 2002 when she appeared in the Nu Soul ad campaign Coca Cola ran for a time.
Later in 2002, Jaguar Wright would release her first of two solo albums, Denials, Delusions, & Decisions. Her next solo outing was with the release of Divorcing Neo 2 Marry Soul in 2005.
Constant Touring
Almost from the beginning of her career, Jaguar Wright has spent time on the road touring. Among her more extensive tours were with bands Bahamadia and Hezekiah on the Philly Sounds tour in Europe in March 2008. In January 2011, Wright was back in Europe with Lady Alma performing in the Philly Sounds 11 tour.
Back in the summer of 2012, Wright put together her first group. The band was a mix of talented Philadelphia musicians. They were performing under the name The W.E. ft. Jaguar Wright, the group, combined the sounds of rock and soul. They wasted no time in getting started and played their first show in October 2012.
Not one to rest on her laurels, Jaguar Wright released a new five-song EP in 2009. The EP titled Lost was released through the internet music company Bandcamp.
Allegations & Controversy
Raise your hand if Jaguar Wright has not levied scandalous accusations about you yet! The number of hands going up is quickly growing smaller! Okay, this is hyperbole, but there have been a lot of names thrown around by Wright lately.
Since Wright has begun airing out dirty laundry, she has come after stars The Roots, P. Diddy, Mary J Blige, Alicia Keys, Summer Walker, Jennifer Lopez, and even her ex, Common. The allegations run the range from ‘hush and mind your own business’ to some that are more alarming, if true.
Among Jaguar Wright’s more concerning allegations were directed at her ex, Common. While she freely admits to her and Common dating, she says the famous singer and actor forced himself on her. Wright has made the following claims against Common on Instagram.
“Gotdamn Common, next thing I know we go to bed he like, ‘Oh, c’mon Jag.’ No, n#gga, I’m tired. I was on the stage all night; I’m a laydown. I lay down in the bed with my clothes on. I’m a rape survivor; I know how to buy myself a little time. Just in case a n#gga try to get out of hand. You gotta pull my pants down. By the time you pull my pants down, I’m hooking you off in your jaw.”
“Next thing I know, I wake up the next morning I feel something poking at my face and sh*t. I open my mouth, and this n#gga trying to stick his d@ck in my f@cking mouth! Lonnie f@cking Lynn, Common, whatever the f@ck you want to call yourself. That’s why I stopped f@cking with him!”
While Common has come out to deny the claims, others have chosen to ignore Wright’s attacks. Jennifer Lopez, P. Diddy, Mary J. Blige, and more have remained quiet so far. But as time passes, more and more artists are beginning to speak out.
One thing is true in all of this Jaguar Wright is on a bit of a rampage across the music industry. If some of her allegations were proven true, individuals would absolutely deserve to pay the price. Yet… some of her other claims about artists’ sexuality and relationships are none of her damn business. So what’s true? Like most things in life, it’s probably somewhere in the middle!
