Your clothes tell your story, how you feel and think. They express your mood and lifestyle. Your clothes connect your mind and body. To be authentic, you must dress to look like yourself. It’s easier said than done. You’ll find that it’s difficult to find the right clothes, which truly reflect your personality. Style helps you create your personal brand.

You may consider that a personal style doesn’t directly impact what you want to do, but it helps build confidence in significant parts of your life. Style gives you the strength, boost, and energy to handle whatever situation you’re in. So, here’s a list of 6 tips on how to express yourself through fashion.

Know Your Brand

When you find a brand, which has the style you love, stick with it! Labels release different versions of signature pieces every season. If you have a brand that captures your aesthetic, then you already got half of the work done. For example, if you are looking for something more eccentric and bold, look no further than Moschino. You can shop the new spring/summer collection on luisaviaroma.com, as an idea. Browse magazines and websites to find your go-to brand!

Tune into Your Personality

Get in touch with your personality and identify your character traits. Establish which clothes express your personality. Be brave and try out new colors and shapes with old favorites. Match bright colors with a neutral base, go for loud prints, go nuts! It’s important to experiment and see which pieces match your personality. Just make sure the outfit doesn’t outshine you, rather compliments you!

Invest in Signatures

If you know you like wearing certain pieces, like a dress shirt but want some flair to it, invest in ONE dress shirt with puffed sleeves for example. Not only will this be better because it’s a quality piece that’ll last, you are also taking small steps towards being fashionably sustainable! Sometimes it’s worth investing a bit more on something to have for years, rather than spending $30 every few months for a piece from H&M that’ll rip after a few washes.

Declutter Your Closet

Take a deep dive into your closet and remember what you own. It’s easy to buy the same piece twice. Nobody likes to throw clothes away. Sometimes you feel as if you’re throwing away memories. It’s tough, but necessary.

If you don’t want to part with certain clothes, put them on a trial run for the next 6 months! If you don’t wear the piece during this time, you should get rid of it. You can donate your clothes to charity, sell them online, there are so many options!

The Uniform

Make the most of the clothes, which look great on you. A huge misconception about style is to never buy similar clothes to those, which you already own. Nobody should own 10 red jumpers and identical pencil skirts. But don’t avoid making the most of what suits your style and body! Keep your style simple, find what looks amazing on you and stick to your formula. If it’s a pair of flare jeans, a blouse and boots every day, so be it!

Follow Trends

For younger people, it’s easy to follow trends. When you get older, you find what suits you and what doesn’t. You identify your style and it’s harder to follow new trends. Be brave and try on new shapes and colors. You may improve your style in the end.

Fashion is a way to express yourself. Your clothes reflect your personality. Stay true to yourself and pick the right pieces. This time of experimentation should be fun for you too! It’s like you are discovering more about yourself, fashion and letting yourself go into a new comfort zone!
