With everything going on in the world right now, one great thing you can do to help is by supporting black-owned business owners. In other words, it’s up to us to support these businesses thrive and continue to be successful. We are a NY based blog. Therefore, we’ve come up with a list of 10 delicious NYC restaurants that are owned by black business owners!

1) Brooklyn Chop House

This gorgeous little restaurant is located in the Financial District of Downtown Manhattan! This NYC restaurant offers an American steakhouse-style menu as well as Chinese dumplings and more!

Although due to the current COVID-19 situation, the restaurant is not open for seating just yet, it is still very much open for pick up and delivery orders! For more info and details on the menu, check out their website below!

Don’t worry – we made sure to include a few black-owned vegan-friendly restaurants to our list! This next NYC restaurant is Urban Vegan Kitchen, located in Greenwich Village, Manhattan.

Started by Pamela Elizabeth in 2016, this restaurant offers a variety of vegan comfort food, such as quesadillas, bowls, and burritos as well as mocktails and cocktails! It is also open and available for pickup and delivery.

This next restaurant is perfect for those of you who are fans of Mediterranean food! Extra Virgin is located in heart of the West Village in Manhattan, making it the perfect accessible spot for an NYC restaurant!

Co-owned by black business owner Michelle Gaton, Extra Virgin offers different varieties of extra virgin oils from around the world each night, in addition to its delicious Mediterranean menu! It is open and available for pickup and delivery.

4) Lee Lee’s Baked Goods

If you’re looking for something to satisfy your sweet tooth, look no further! Located in Harlem, Lee Lee’s Baked Goods specializes in a variety of baked goods. Lee Lee also has an emphasis on Rugelach.

Alvin Lee Smalls is a black business owner who opened up his NYC restaurant because of his long-term passion for baking! In additon, his Rugelach has gotten nothing but praise from his customers and has become quite well known!

Similarly, this next NYC restaurant is also located in Harlem, however it is not your traditional eatery. Serengeti Teas & Spice Shop specializes in offering their customers African products with a story behind each purchase!

The owner of this business is Doughba Hamilton Caranda-Martin, who is a world-renowned expert of African herbal medicine, tea, culinary gastronomy, and rare African coffees. Each of their products are hand crafted, offering an amazing experience each time!

An NYC restaurant list would not be complete without including a pizza place! It is located in the heart of the East Village. Scarr’s Pizza specializes in classic New York think slice pizza.

Founded by Scarr Pimentel, the pizzeria actually mills its own grains in the restaurant basement every single day! Above all, this delicious restaurant is open and available during this time for pickup and delivery.

If you are a fan of seafood then you are in luck! This next black owned NYC restaurant is located in Astoria and offers some of the best seafood in the whole city! 

Although Something Catchy mainly focuses and a seafood-based menu, they do offer a variety of other options. They serve appetizers, wings, kids meals, drinks, and desserts. During this time of COVID-19, they offer pre-ordered pans for delivery!

8) Brooklyn Perk Coffee

This next place is for all of us (myself included) that can’t survive without coffee. In other words, don’t talk to me until I’ve had my morning coffee. Brooklyn Perk Coffee is located in Flatbush, Brooklyn. 

This amazing coffee shop offers menu items such as an Almond Milk Banana Latte and Lavender Cold Brew! In conclusion, it would almost be a crime not to try this place out. It is currently open for pickup!

In addition to seafood, another one of my favorite cuisines is Southern Style. Located in Stuyvesant Heights, Peaches is a classic American restaurant with a slight emphasis on Southern food.

This NYC restaurant prides itself on providing delicious Southern comfort food. It’s also important to mention that they offer amazing hospitality and customer service! During this time, they are open for pickup and delivery.
