“Euphoria” is a series that needs no introduction. From its raw and honest portrayal of adolescence, its unapologetic approach toward taboo topics, and its mesmerizing cinematography, the show has taken the world by storm. But with the departure of actor Barbie Ferreira, who played the role of Kat Hernandez in the series, fans were left with many unanswered questions. Thankfully, in a recent appearance on the “Armchair Expert” podcast, Ferreira revealed the reason behind her exit from the show.
Rumors had been swirling for months about Ferreira’s exit from “Euphoria.” Reports suggested that she had clashed with the show’s creator, Sam Levinson, during the filming of Season 2. Some even claimed that she had walked off-set during a fight with Levinson. However, Ferreira was quick to dismiss these rumors, stating that she never asked to be involved in any drama and that she didn’t walk off-set.
Mutual Decision Between Barbie Ferreira and the Creators
While the rumors may have been untrue, it was clear that Ferreira’s character, Kat, had been sidelined in Season 2, which left fans wondering what was going on behind the scenes. But according to Ferreira, her exit from the show was a “mutual decision” between her and the show’s creators.
“I don’t think there was a place for [Kat] to go,” Ferreira said. “I think there were places she could have gone. I just don’t think it would have fit into the show. I don’t know if it was going to do her justice, and I think both parties knew that.”
Ferreira went on to say that filming a season of “Euphoria” takes around nine months, which made it difficult for her to work on anything else. From a career standpoint, it did not make sense to her to give up nearly a year of filming on a show where her part had become increasingly limited.
“I feel like with Season 2 and certain parts of it, there was a kind of struggle for both parties,” Ferreira said. “Sam, me… It was a struggle to find the continuation of her story. So that was actually really hurtful to watch and see the fans get upset. I just felt like maybe I overstayed my welcome a little bit. So, for me, it actually felt good to be like, ‘Okay, I get to not worry about this, and we both don’t get to worry about this, because it’s exhausting.“
It’s clear that Ferreira has no hard feelings toward the show’s creators, and she even acknowledged that her departure from the show has been a positive thing for her.
“Sam writes for, like, things that he relates to. I don’t think he relates to Kat. I like Kat, so I get to go on my own path. At first, I was like, ‘Oh, my God, I’m a flop. I’m a loser.’ It really has been a good thing.“
As fans of the show, it’s natural to feel disappointed that Ferreira won’t be returning for Season 3. But it’s important to remember that actors have their own reasons for leaving a show, and it’s not always due to behind-the-scenes drama. Ferreira’s departure may have been a mutual decision between her and the show’s creators, but that doesn’t mean she won’t be missed.
It’s also worth noting that Ferreira’s departure from “Euphoria” doesn’t mean she’s slowing down anytime soon. She’s currently starring in the Hulu series “The Unbearable Weight of Massive Talent” alongside
Barbie Ferreira Answers the Rumors
But with the announcement of Ferreira’s departure, fans were left wondering why their favorite character was being written off the show. There were rumors circulating online that Ferreira had walked off set during a fight with the show’s creator, Sam Levinson, and that her character’s storyline had been sidelined in Season 2. In her recent interview, Ferreira took the opportunity to address these rumors head-on.
“So, for me, when people ask me about Season 2, it’s usually that they come at me with, like, I was some sort of victim to Season 2, and I’m always like, ‘No, it’s okay, promise. It’s good,'” Ferreira said on the podcast. “I kind of got sucked into this drama that I never asked to be in and that I’ve never talked about. I’m of the mindset that if it doesn’t exist, I’m not going to address it because then I’m adding fuel to it. It’s taken on a life of its own. Don’t believe everything you read.“
Ferreira also set the record straight about reports that she walked off the set during a fight with Levinson. “I actually did not walk off set,” she said. “I did sprain my ankle once and had to go get an X-ray. Maybe that’s what they mean?“
The real reason behind Ferreira’s exit, she explained, was that her character’s storyline had run out of gas. “I don’t think there was a place for [Kat] to go,” Ferreira said. “I think there were places she could have gone. I just don’t think it would have fit into the show. I don’t know if it was going to do her justice, and I think both parties knew that.“
From a career standpoint, it also made sense for Ferreira to move on from the show. “Filming a season of ‘Euphoria’ takes around nine months, and for a majority of that time, I wasn’t able to work on anything else,” she said. “It didn’t make sense for me to give up nearly a year of my life to do something where my part had become increasingly limited.”
Despite the challenges she faced on the show, Ferreira emphasized that she had no ill feelings towards Levinson or anyone else involved with the production.
While it’s always tough to say goodbye to a beloved character, Ferreira’s exit from ‘Euphoria‘ ultimately seems like the best move for both her career and the show’s future. And as fans eagerly await the third season of the hit series, they can rest assured that the talented cast and crew are hard at work bringing us another groundbreaking and thought-provoking story.
