7 Crazy Things That Happen to Your Body During Sex

Sex is a whole-body experience, and our bodies are capable of a whole lot of crazy things during sex. During arousal, countless changes begin to happen to our bodies. Some of which you might be very familiar with — other things might surprise you.

Here are 7 crazy things that happen to your body during sex.

1. Breasts can grow during arousal

During the arousal state, breasts can expand by 25%. Twenty-five percent! That’s a considerable amount of temporary boob real estate right there. This happens because arousal causes blood vessel dilatation — thus filling the breasts with blood. Sadly, this upgrade does wear off after blood pressure and vessel dilation goes back to normal after sex.

2. Vaginas can shapeshift and create suction

During sex, the vagina can deepen and expand. Muscular tension caused by arousal draws the uterus and cervix up toward the pelvis and this creates more space in the vagina. Because of this phenomenon, vaginas can expand by 200% during sex. TWO HUNDRED PERCENT. This is called “vaginal tenting” or ballooning and it creates a sort of suction within the vaginal canal.

3. Your pupils can dilate because of a flood of “love hormones”

During arousal, your body starts to be flooded by serotonin, oxytocin, and dopamine. These feel-good hormones have a direct effect on the size of your pupils. So, when you’re attracted, and turned on your pupils can dilate.

4. Three words: internal lady boner

Ladies have the same erectile tissue that men do, it’s just on a smaller scale and, surprise, it’s mostly internal. When aroused the clitoris can become “erect,” engorged with blood, and extremely sensitive to stimulation.

However, the only part we can see is the clitoris glans which is only around 2 cm. The rest of the “lady boner,” or the clitoral body, extends internally for about 2.75 inches on average. (Which is almost half of the length of an average-sized penis.) So not only do women get boners, most of it is internal.

5. Sex flushing

During sex, your skin can flush and become noticeably red. Sometimes you’ll blush in patches or all over. But don’t get embarrassed, it’s just a sign you’re enjoying yourself. This sex flushing is also due to changes in increased blood flow.

6. Clitoris retracts right before orgasm

The lady boner doth protest? Not exactly. During sex, the clitoris might go from being front and center to quickly retreating. But this is totally normal and a sign that an orgasm is near. Right before orgasm, the clitoris actually retracts into the clitoral hood. This is likely due to intense muscle contractions.

7. You get high on your own supply

During sex, your brain basically dopes you up. The powerful cocktail of hormones that are released during and after sex is essentially an al naturale euphoria. The high levels of dopamine that flood your brain after sex is enough to make you feel happy, giggly, and giddy, while the oxytocin makes you want to snuggle up and lay in bliss with your beau.
