Nothing gives you a boost of confidence like a good Beyoncé performance, and this past Saturday she gave us all her very best. She represented HBCU’s, black poets, and activists, such as Nina Simone and Malcolm X. Beyoncé pieced it all together in a performance that paid respects her culture and to being the first black woman to ever headline Coachella. Bey reminded everyone that mediocrity is no longer the standard.
This is exactly why she renamed the famous festival Beychella, cause she killed it!
Moving on to a sadder take on last weekend’s series of magical musical sets: The Weeknd did an emotional set featuring music from his latest album. The Weeknd’s new single title “Call Out My Name" most definitely deals with some of the issues within his relationship with actress and singer Selena Gomez.
The two dated seriously for about 10 months. The Weeknd even missed the Grammys one year to be by Selena’s side as she entered into rehab. We felt The Weeknd’s pain when we heard about their split, just days after pictures of Selena and her ex-boyfriend Justin Bieber were floating around.
The two were said to be attending church together and engaging in other hangout sessions as well. There’s no definite confirmation on what was going on exactly, but it must not have been good if a breakup followed shortly after.
The Weeknd reminisced about their relationship through song, while shedding tears wasn’t easy to watch. You can’t help but feel bad for the guy, but Starboy won’t stay down for too long. Or at least we hope not.
Cardi B gave a fun performance on Sunday. She was fashionable as ever giving us TLC vibes with her futuristic all white outfit. Cardi has to be about 7 months pregnant and she killed her set. Another prime example of no excuses this weekend. And her dancers in the back were on some next level cirque du soleil stripper sh*t it was amazing!
Chance the Rapper and Kehlani both came out to perform their featured tracks with Cardi and it was everything!
Miguel gave a memorable performance as he served us with hit after hit of his classic music since his first album "All I Want Is You." The title track, along with "Adorn," "Do You," and "Coffee," hit the crowd with nostalgic bliss.
We were also blessed with some new music too. Kali Uchis joined Miguel on stage for his song Caramelo Duro from his latest album. Not only does Miguel have hot new music, he’s also been showing us more of his new look since releasing his latest project ”War and Leisure” which features the popular song ”Skywalker”. The curly hair cutie we all loved has been rocking dreads lately and we love the look.
Jidenna hit the stage as well and basically had a party with the crowd. He brought nothing but energy and of course swag, because that’s what he does. The 6’1 rapper/singer wore straight leg pants tailored to perfection with a beautiful African print short sleeve button up. The whole look was topped off with green low top Chuck Taylors. He also rocked two crisp braids that tied back into a bun, with a fresh side fade.
Jidenna is a true performer and we just can’t figure out how he manages to stay looking fresh and clean from beginning to end. The crowd went wild for his party starters Trampoline, and Classic Man. Jidenna also performed more faves from his latest album like ”Bambi” which has become hands down one of his best ballads.
Next weekend we can look forward to seeing more fun and exciting sets from Tank and The Bangas, another incredible set from The Weeknd and SZA, Kygo, Kali Uchis, Cash Cash, and more. To watch at home be sure to follow the Coachella YouTube channel.
Just a heads up there are three channels that stream live, and all 3 channels show different sets from artist simultaneously. A little something to keep in mind as you watch next weekend. So if you don’t like what’s going on with one screen you can change to the next!
