Exactly Who is Zach Roerig Anyway
The Vampire Diaries actor was born on February 22, 1985, to the late Daniel and Andrea Roerig. Zach and his younger sister Emily grew up in the Ohio town of Montpelier. The future actor was a talented athlete and participated in both wrestling and football while in high school. During time away from school and sports, Zach would spend his time working with his dad and grandfather, making gravestones at Fackler Monuments.

As talented as he may have been on the athletics field or as gifted as he was with stonework, neither were where Zach’s passions lay. The budding Hollywood heartthrob attended the Barbizon Modeling and Acting School in Cleveland, Ohio. Clearly showing promise early on, he signed with his first agent and began work with the International Modeling and Talent Association.
From Modeling to Acting
The young Zach Roerig soon transitioned from modeling to acting full-time. Among his earliest roles is that of Casey Hughes on the daytime soap drama As the World Turns. Zach was a regular on the series from January 2005 till May 2007. Shortly after his first soap run, he found himself playing Hunter Atwood on the soap One Life to Live for close to a year.
After his daytime soap days were over, Zach moved into nighttime dramas. The actor made several appearances on the television version of Friday Night Lights as Cash. Shortly after his time on the show ended, Zach began working on what is arguably his most well-known role.
From 2009 to 2017, you could find Zach Roerig on the CW Network series The Vampire Diaries. The series saw Zach in the part of Matt Donovan, a role that he would later bring over to a Vampire’s spin-off series, The Originals.
Zach made his box office debut as Carter in the 2017 supernatural horror film Rings. One of his more recent big-screen outings was in the role of Ray Mott in the Todd Robinson written and directed film The Last Full Measure.
Fighting for His Daughter
For as much fame as Zach Roerig garnered on The Vampire Diaries, the actor still managed to keep much of his private life, well private! In June of 2013, Zach filed legal documents seeking to obtain full custody of his daughter. A daughter that very few, if any, of the actor’s fans even knew he had!
His daughter, Fiona, was born in January 2011 to Alana Turner. Zach filed for custody of the child after the girl’s mother was locked up in federal prison. Although the exact charges are not known, Zach has stated that Alana has been arrested multiple times for “various crimes.”
After everything was presented and facts laid bare, Zach Roerig would be awarded full custody of his daughter Fiona in October 2013.

On the Other Side of the Bars
Zach Roerig got to experience life on the other side of prison bars in 2020. While driving in his hometown of Montpelier, Ohio, on May 24, Zach was pulled over by officers for not having a front license plate. This minor infraction would lead to bigger troubles that would see the actor spending the night behind bars!
When officers approached Zach, it’s reported that the actor had bloodshot eyes, slurred speech, and had a strong smell of liquor coming from him. According to sources, Zach failed several sobriety tests in spectacular fashion and was subsequently arrested for driving under the influence.
The actor spent the night behind bars before he was later released on his own recognizance. He was arraigned days later on June 4. Since the incident, the actor has seemingly kept on the right side of the law!
What Comes Next
We all have our gifts; Zach Roerig has been blessed with several! Athletic, good-looking, extraordinary acting abilities, and a beautiful daughter, he seems to have it all! But, it can all be taken away in the blink of an eye. The young Fiona already has one parent in prison, hopefully, Zach’s run-in with police in 2020 helps the talented actor keep his head on straight and focused on what’s most important, his and his daughter’s well-being!
