Many of us have had bad experiences where hair dye has ruined our hair textures. A brand that is completely different than dyeing your hair is Overtone. Overtone hair colors are meant to be a simple procedure in dyeing the hair, where you don’t have the toxic ingredients found in dyes. Women everywhere enjoy dying their hair, and they also find it fun to change it up.
Many of us though, have had bad experiences where the dye has ruined our hair textures. The brand Overtone found a way to make the process easier for you! Also, the brand provides products for all types of hair and hair colors, that will leave you satisfied with the results. Below we talk about Overtone colors and compare them to other brands.
How Does Overtone Hair Coloring Work?
Overtone is not a traditional dye, but a hydrating coloring conditioner. These conditioners have pigment in them to color your hair without having to use hair dyes. Also, Overtone can be done easily, because you can just apply the conditioners from the comfort of your home. The conditioners are semi-permanent and have a vegan formula too!
Many dyes bring toxic chemicals, whereas Overtone hair colors have natural ingredients such as coconut oil, avocado oil, and shea butter. Overall, the brand works by giving you two different conditioners, coloring conditioners, and daily conditioners.
Overtone Coloring Conditioners
Now that you understand the brand a little more, let’s look at the products and how they dye the hair. The coloring conditioner has a hydrating formula that contains a lot of pigment to change the hair color up. It is recommended that you use it once a week to help keep the color in and if you’re coloring it for the first time. The conditioner comes in 14 colors with a variety of shades for each.
All you have to do is apply this to sectioned hair from roots to tip and let it soak in the hair for 10-15 minutes, then rinse. When it comes to the daily conditioners these are more so to keep the color in between washes. After we dye our hair the colors tend to disappear after a couple of washes, so the daily conditioner prevents that. Use these in the shower for 3-5 minutes to help give the color some life again!
You can buy both the daily and coloring as a set too. Another conditioner that they have is their toning conditioners. These are made specifically for those who just want to maintain and neutralize their color. They come in four shades pink, green, purple, and blue to help neutralize red, yellow, and orange tones.
How Long do Overtone Hair Colors Last?
Overtone colors because they are semi-permanent last depending on care. You can use them once and wash them out over a couple of months, or you can keep using their conditioners to keep it. If you want to maintain the color for months and for a long period of time, apply the coloring or daily conditioner as needed. This way the color can stay as long as you would like it to.
Around 10 washes you will notice the color starting to fade and in need of an appliance.
When comparing this to other brands, it really depends on the hair dye brand. Permanent hair dyes tend to last the longest around 4-6 weeks, which is when your roots will start to show. Semi-permanent typically lasts a couple of weeks depending on how much you wash your hair. Overtone is worth the price in this case because you can start reapplying the product after 10 washes, which is close to when you have to with regular dye.
Does It Work On All Hair?
Not all products work on all hair textures, some are made for people with specific hair types. It’s really important for brands to be diverse and inclusive with their products especially hair products. Also, so many women experience bad hair dyes where they notice it doesn’t work on them as it does for others. You don’t have to worry about that here, Overtone is for all hair textures.
The brand is curl-safe and has been mentioned on Naturallycurly.com and won the Essence Best in Black Award! This is perfect because many dyes ruin our curls, and even damage our naturally curly hair! You can also check out Overtones blog where they give advice on hair care and different tips.
