Living in the city puts so much stress on our bodies and our skin. Working long hours to keep up with the cost of living can give us tired eyes and aging skin. Trying to hail a taxi in the hot sun can increase oil production, giving us a shiny face and running makeup.

While we love this big, beautiful city, we have to take extra measures to obtain flawless skin. These measures include incorporating essential oils into your skincare routine.

We put together a list of essential oils and their benefits to help you get through each season in The Big Apple.

Tea Tree Oil

Tea tree oil is well known for its acne fighting abilities. It helps regulate oil production which can decrease breakouts. Mix a few drops of this oil with some witch hazel and you have your own acne treatment.

Use this remedy only at night before bed. Tea tree oil can you make you more sensitive to UV rays; then you will need another essential oil to soothe your sunburn.

Lavender Oil

As an anti-inflammatory, lavender oil can be used to relieve inflamed and itchy skin. If you suffer from eczema, this is the perfect oil for you. It can also soothe insect bites. Lavender oil is the most versatile oil because of its many benefits. It’s useful in reducing redness, so there’s no need for those expensive color correcting kits.

Apply a few drops of lavender oil to your face before applying your foundation and say goodbye to that red and irritated face; because the only red that should be on your face is blush and lipstick.

Basil Oil

Basil oil is another oil with many skin benefits. It’s best used for its anti-inflammatory properties as well. It is also beneficial for preventing those annoying blackheads and whiteheads.

You can make your own face mask with basil oil mixing it with Earth’s clay, honey, and lemon juice. Apply this mask daily each night and wake up to flawless skin.

Clary Sage

No matter how young we are, sometimes our skin can make us look older than we really are. Clary Sage is perfect for this condition. It can fight the signs of aging and reduce puffiness. You don’t need to spend hundreds of dollars on those eye creams that barely work.

Apply clary sage before your concealer and your eyes will look brighter and healthier. As a beauty tip, always dilute this oil before applying. It’s one of the thicker and stronger oils.

Chamomile Oil

Chamomile is the go-to oil for those with sensitive skin. It is gentle enough to use on babies. This oil is best for moisturizing dry skin. Replace your daily lotion with chamomile oil for the ultimate skin care.

You can also use chamomile oil as perfume, as its lovely smell lingers in the air. Just be careful not to use too much. As with any fragrance, you could upset others close to you.

Rose Oil

We’ve heard all about the positive effects that roses have on our skin. Many of us add a splash of rose water before we apply our makeup. This is because rose water and oil work as an amazing skin toner.

Rose oil also helps moisturize the face without adding too much shine. The next time you sit down to apply your makeup, don’t forget to grab that rose oil first.

Peppermint Oil

Nowadays, it seems like peppermint is used for everything. In this form, it has reliable soothing abilities. Beauty experts use peppermint oil for chapped skin and lips.

Apply this oil to your lips before your lipstick or gloss for smooth lips all day.

If you haven’t been using these essential oils in your skin care routine, it’s not too late to start. Put down those harmful chemicals and go all-natural with your favorite oil.
