Have you experienced a situation where you go out looking all fabulous, then experience cakiness on your face and chapped lips? Chances are you made some common makeup mistakes that might have been too small for you to notice. But when it comes to makeup, a small step can make a lot of difference.

Being the most attractive person in the mirror, particularly to yourself, may be difficult if you are not a makeup artist. Celebrities, social media, and even your friends and family may make you believe you should look a particular way. One item may suit you but not your buddy due to our diverse facial shapes and complexions. To help you look the best, we have listed 11 don’ts while doing makeup.

11 Don’ts of makeup

Here are 11 cosmetic blunders you didn’t realize you were committing. Stop them immediately!

  1. Don’t ignore skincare before applying makeup: Always prepare your skin before doing makeup. and let the skin care for itself for at least 15 minutes.
  1.  Don’t overwash your face: Don’t overwash your face; it is important to start makeup with a clean face. But dry, flaky skin after foundation application indicates overwashing. To maintain healthy skin, it is recommended to wash your face twice a day, in the morning and before bed. Since the skin produces natural oils, you should use a gentle cleanser.
  1. Don’t use dirty makeup tools: To ensure good hygiene and skin health, it is important not to use dirty makeup tools. Dirty makeup brushes introduce bacteria to your skin, resulting in itchiness and infection. Instead of taking the risk, set aside time on the weekend to wash your brushes. When it comes to cleaning your brushes, you need a small bowl of warm water and a few squirts of your shampoo. The same goes for beauty blenders.
  1. Don’t sleep in with wearing makeup: Sleeping in your makeup is a bad idea. Both foundation and concealer have been linked to an increase in acne. To rid the skin of blemishes and provide it with the necessary hydration, a thorough cleansing, toning, and moisturizing routine is essential. Always follow your nighttime skincare routine before going to bed.
  2. Don’t Use Too Much Product: If you use too much foundation, your face will seem cakey and artificial. To get a perfect and natural finish, start with a tiny quantity and build up as needed. Similarly, be sure to use a light hand with powder, bronzer, and blush too. Using too much of any type of product will make your makeup look overdone, which is why it’s important to start with just a small amount and blend it until you get the desired coverage.
  3.  Don’t buy too many products: Simply applying too much product is bad. Don’t waste money on unneeded items, especially if you are a beginner in makeup. It’s easy to spend hundreds of dollars on makeup and then be miserable with everything you’ve purchased. Instead of buying everything from eyelash primer to finishing spray, start with the basics. Every beginner makeup kit needs mascara and lipsticks—that’s it!
  1. Don’t mess up your concealer: The use of an oily concealer under the eyes will result in the formation of fine lines. A few drops of concealer should be dabbed on the bone below the eyes. Concealers are available in many colors, each having different uses. Never use a lot of products at once in the targeted area.
  1. Don’t automatically reach for a deeper tint of brow filler. Choose a tint that is the same as, or just a shade lighter than, your actual brow hair color for soft, natural definition. But for blondes, choosing a shade or two darker keeps the brows from looking washed out or like they aren’t there at all.
  1. Do not simply reapply mascara on top of what you already have on. Do not pump your mascara wand because it will dry out soon.
  1.  Do not follow the latest fad of overlining lips. While it may be trendy for celebrities to have over-lined pouts, makeup for the camera is different from wearing natural makeup. Thus, avoid going extreme with lip liners.
  1. Do not try to smile when applying because the cheeks rise while you smile and drop when you don’t. So to avoid a blush disaster, swipe it upwards along your cheekbones.
