This week our NYGal playlist will focus on our new-found appreciation of staying inside with one another. Now that the weather permits and it is officially the beginning of cuffing season.
Our playlist features classics. We have a track from the Red Hot Chili Peppers, but also included the underappreciated Mac Miller with his ode to the “woman form”; Which could be argued to have been made a classic since his untimely passing.
We wanted to capture love, that at times is unfortunate and will leave you yearning to be heard, such as in Mario’s “Let Me Love You”. Or a self-admitted, hopelessly infatuated Kali Ulchis in her song, “Melting”. “Melting like an ice/cream when you smile/Melting, you’re a daydream.”
Perhaps this imagery will remind you of this past summer. Particularly, if you’re having a hard time letting it go as it dwindles out.
Most importantly though, we wanted you and whoever you choose to be with on a particularly cold night to feel the way that Ed Sheeran felt on “Sofa”; This was one of his first released songs. He sings…
“Hoody still smells of the beach bonfire/On the sofa, where we lay/I wanna stay inside all day/And it’s cold outside, again.”
This playlist will enable you and whoever you’re curled up with on an autumn afternoon to truly appreciate FKA Twigs song “Good to Love”. In this song, she sings about letting boundaries down. And allowing each other to see one another for all a person is; Good or bad. Maybe it could also make you vulnerable enough to listen to the somewhat heartwrenching song. Like The Fray’s “You Found Me”…
“Lost and insecure/You found me, you found me/Lying on the floor/Surrounded, surrounded.”
