Elevated loungewear is definitely having a moment right now. While loungewear’s popularity has been increasing for years, the current circumstances have paved the way for combining a cozy style while staying on-trend. Fortunately, favoring being comfortable doesn’t mean we have to jeopardize our own personal style.

Upping our Loungewear Game

We’ve all got accustomed to wearing our comfiest clothes these last few months. While we are still craving a cozy style as we spend more time at home as the weather cools down, it may be time to up our loungewear game.

During the lockdown, influencers provided the inspiration to at least look like we have our lives together. Still providing aspirational content, Instagram feeds were full of girls looking on-trend in their kitchen baking banana bread, while wearing a matching cozy co-ord or luxury silk loungewear.

Evolution of Loungewear

Cozy style loungewear is evolving from yoga pants and poorly-fitted hoodies, towards slouchy culottes, relax-tailored pants, and matching co-ord sweats. This evolution has brought us clothes that you wouldn’t be ashamed to wear for a video call with the office, and clothes you could quite happily wear for a chilled day shopping with friends. Loungewear continues to evolve just as sneakers evolved from athleisure to everyday casualwear that has the potential to make a fashion statement.

Work From Home Cozy Style

No longer does your boyfriend’s oversized tee and last night’s dinner stained sweatpants cut it. Zoom has opened a window to our lives at home. With many people still working from home, Zoom calls with your boss may require you to look a little more put together as we adjust to the new normal.

A cozy style may have been the most important aspect of our wardrobes at the beginning of lockdown just a few short months ago, but now as we adapt to spend more time at home for both work and personal lives, we are all tired of looking a little on the unkempt side.

Dress for the Mood you Want

Business Insider spoke with blogger Duprie about the mood benefits of dressing in more on-trend clothes during quarantine: “It’s kind of like dress for the job you want. In this case, it’s dress for the mood you want to have all day,” she said. “Even if you only have a few minutes to spare in the morning … having that one thing that is a constant in your life can really offer stability and consistency in a very unstable environment.”

A well put together outfit can elevate your mood and get you ready to tackle the day. Sometimes something as simple as wearing high-quality, elevated loungewear is the motivation we need to work towards that deadline, speak up in a meeting, and make professional moves in our career.

Brands Selling Couch Couture

When Kim Kardashian released the SKIMS cozy style loungewear, fans rushed to buy. The anticipated collection of warm, knit loungewear, made from breathable, stretchy yarn in neutral tones made us want to throw out our mismatched loungewear forever.

Perhaps because people are anticipating working from home into the new year, but many women are willing to pay premium prices for quality loungewear. Many brands are recognizing this need for a fashionable, yet cozy style.

With the world feeling a little overwhelming right now, there is nothing wrong with taking comfort in our wardrobes. Sometimes wearing a slouchy, cable-knit cashmere cardigan can be the comfort we all need to face the world right now. And the fact that we can look on-trend while wearing it – even better.
