It can be expensive living in NYC. Like, seriously, it can really make your wallet feel pretty empty at the end of a fun weekend. But, there are so many things to do in NYC this week that won’t make your bank account suffer. Because, really, fun doesn’t always come with a high price tag!

These budget-friendly ideas will inspire you to get out, get moving, and take in everything that NYC has to offer. The summer is almost over, so don’t you want to get out and experience the city before it gets too cold?

Check out these budget-friendly things to do in NYC this week:

Coney Island

If you live in NYC and you haven’t been to Coney Island…then are you really a New Yorker? Sure, it may seem a little overrated, but you have to ride the Cyclone at least once! It’s pretty much a requirement.

Picnic

Nothing says summertime like a picnic in the park. And, NYC is full of parks! On the weekends, Central Park is flooded with people, but you can always find room for a picnic blanket, some good food, and some good company.

The Met

If you’re an art lover, then you’ve probably been to The Met before. But, the great thing about The Met is that there is always a new exhibit to check out. So, get out your notebook, head on over to this art-hub, and do some sketching and note-taking.

Bike Riding

There is no better way to commute in the summer than by bicycle. And, NYC makes it so easy with Citi Bikes! It’s like the Zipcar of bikes. You can find them in every borough of the city. And, you’ll get to experience some new scenery. It definitely beats riding the sweaty subway.

Rockwood Musichall

Rockwood Musichall is a gem on the LES. It has three different stages and all different kinds of music. And, it’s known for having some pretty sick free concerts. Stop by at any time after 6pm during the week to catch anything from rap to jazz to electronic to funk. You may discover your new favorite artist!

Outdoor Movie

In the summer, NYC parks show outdoor movies to the public. Movies range from children’s hits such as Toy Story to classic tales like Ghostbusters. It’s a great new way to experience some of your favorite films. And, it’s totally free!

The Highline

The Highline is park in NYC that sits high above the street. This allows photographers and people-watchers alike to gain a new perspective of the city. It’s the perfect place for a midday snack or to read a good book in the warm weather.

The Strand

If you’re a total book-lover, chances are you’ve been to The Strand before. This is an excellent thing to do in NYC this week because this fan-favorite bookstore has the absolute best deals. Venture into their basement for indie gems you can’t get anywhere else at the best prices around! Plus, the staff always has amazing recommendations.

Block Party

If you’ve wandered around Brooklyn in the summer, you know that it’s inevitable that you’ll find a raging block party. Simply walk around neighborhoods such as Williamsburg, Bushwick, or Greenpoint for some good BBQ, loud music, fun games, and new friends. We guarantee you’ll walk out with bead necklaces, face paint, and a full stomach.

Brooklyn Bridge

If you want a little excericse and a wonderful view, then a walk on the Brooklyn Bridge is the perfect thing to do in NYC this week. If you go during the week, you probably won’t be totally swamped with tourists. But, on the weekends, be prepared to walk at a slow pace.

Street Performance

Street performances can be caught practically anywhere in the city. But, if you’re looking to seek them out- then hit up parks and big tourist areas! You can find some really neat artists playing music, reciting monologues, and dancing to some sick beats.

Union Sqaure Farmer’s Market

There are farmer’s markets all over NYC, but one of our favorites is the one at Union Square. They have everything from fresh veggies to bread to honey to meat. Also, you can find some really yummy sweet treats if you look hard enough!

Riverside Park

Riverside Park is huge, to say the least! Located on the UWS of NYC, this beautiful park contains dozens of sport’s fields. So, if you’re looking to catch some of a game, then a walk along the river is a great thing to do in NYC this week.
