National Ice Cream Day Is Almost Here and NYC Is Going All Out

We have a lot of “holidays” in the United States. We have some really sweet ones like National Siblings Day on April 10th and National Best Friends Day on June 8th, Look on the Bright Side Day on December 21st, Hug Your Cat Day on June 4th, or I Love Lucy Day on October 15th.

There are also some really odd ones, like National Absurdity Day on November 20th, International Find a Pay Phone Booth Day on March 10th, Howl at the Moon Day and Night on October 26th, and Stick Out Your Tongue Day on July 19th. We even have Thank A Mailman Day on February 4th.

However, the absolute best holiday that the United States celebrates IMO is National Ice Cream Day, which comes in the middle of National Ice Cream Month, which is July every year. This incredible holiday comes once a year, this year on July 15, 2018, and New York goes all out for it!

For the record, National Ice Cream Month was signed into a legitimate law by President Ronald Reagan in 1984, which designated July as the celebratory month with the culmination of the holiday on the third Sunday of the month. In the official proclamation, Reagan “call[ed] upon the people of the United States to observe these events with appropriate ceremonies and activities.” Well, don’t mind if I do!

New York City has prepared to celebrate with appropriate ceremony and activity this year with the 3rd Annual NYC Summer Ice Cream Blizzard. This event will feature “the best and most unique artisanal ice cream” New York has to offer, as well as more than 100 artists, designers, craft-makers, vintage dealers and food vendors to peruse their wares and inspire your heart.

Honestly, the ice cream isn’t even the best part of this event; the company that oversees the NYC Summer Ice Cream Blizzard, Grand Bazaar NYC, donates 100 percent of its profits to four local city public schools, which affects the lives of over 4,000 children.

You are literally helping the community by attending this ice cream madhouse and indulging in the cold, creamy goodness. I can’t think of a better way to spend a hot, summer, New York City Sunday.

If you’re already rearranging your whole life to attend the Blizzard, fear not, we have the details:

The 3rd Annual NYC Summer Ice Cream Blizzard will be happening Sunday, July 15, 2018, from 10:00 am to 5:30 pm at Grand Bazaar NYC at 100 West 77th St. Plus, it is totally free to show up and shop. You can find all of the information about the event on their Eventbrite page.

Also, if you can’t attend the Ice Cream Blizzard this weekend, the Grand Bazaar NYC has street fairs at this spot on Sundays weekly year-round, so you still have ample opportunity to check out the amazing artisans and vendors while aiding in the education of city children.
