Early life

Advocacy
During a June 12 Congressional hearing, comedian and actor Jon Stewart pleaded with Congress to pass the PACT Act, which would give sick veterans the resources they need to survive. The House Judiciary Committee unanimously passed the bill, which will go to the full House of Representatives for a vote.
Stewart was visibly emotional when he spoke to Congress, holding back tears. His testimony was widely reported on the internet and generated hundreds of news articles. His testimony shed light on the health issues of World Trade Center workers and other veterans. During the rally, Stewart and a coalition of veterans groups urged Congress to take action on the sick veterans.
Stewart’s testimony also raised the profile of the Congressional hearing. Stewart had previously been an advocate for the health compensation act passed after the 9/11 attacks.
