As women, we tend to have a love/hate relationship with our period. As great as it is to be women and bear children, we dread our period because it can lead to a few days of discomfort and pain for some of us. However, there are a couple of remedies that can be done in the comfort of your own home which will help you relieve some of the pain caused by nature’s blessed gifts.

NYgal has rounded up six home remedies that can relieve you from menstrual pains.

Exercise

I know the idea of exercise sounds crazy, considering many of us feel so much discomfort especially in our lower back and abdomen. Exercise, however, is the key to a healthy life no matter the situation. Exercising while on your period is beneficial because it can actually help to ease pain. The more physical activity you fit into your daily life in particularly during your period, the more it can help your over all health and ease the pain of cramps. It doesn’t have to be intense strength training but walking and cardio can go a long way instead of staying in one place and in pain. Exercising also helps with reducing an otherwise heavy flow.

Healthy Diet

When your period makes its monthly visit, it’s important to eat healthier and avoid foods that cause water retention, which actually make you feel bloated. Foods to stay away from would be fatty foods, too much sugar, processed foods as well as salt. Instead, try drinking tea, eating more vegetables, and if you are craving sugar, fix the craving by having some fruit such as raspberries, strawberries or even dark chocolate.

Applying Heat

Easy and convenient ways to apply heat is by filling a bottle with hot water or placing a heating pad on your abdomen. You can also soak a towel in water, remove the excess, then place it in the microwave for one minute and gently put it over your belly.

Chamomile Tea

Drinking chamomile tea is a fantastic way to reduce pain because chamomile is a plant that contains anti-inflammatory properties, which helps reduce pain and inflammation from your body. Drinking chamomile tea throughout your period will reduce period cramps and will make your life a bit easier for that time of the month.

Lemon Juice

Just like chamomile tea has anti-inflammatory properties, lemon juice also contains Vitamin C that assists with iron absorption and is also good for your reproductive system.

An Orgasam

Now, here’s something your mom didn’t tell you for obvious reasons, but an orgasam will help reduce period pain. Right before the orgasam, your uterus will relax. Once the moment of climax ensues, the blood flow will increase and relieve the pain. Not only will this help reduce pain while your awake, but it will assist you in sleeping better.
