The excitement is already in the air as the date and theme for the Met Gala 2023 have been announced. It’s the beginning of the year, and all the star-studded events are lining up one by one. The Met Gala is an iconic event that needs no special description. The grandiose event brings together celebrities and designers from all over the world, and the Metropolitan Museum of Art becomes the venue that witnesses the innovative creations of these brilliant artists and designers. We might not be able to make it to the Mets, but we can still enjoy the details.
For those obsessed with fashion, there is no other event like the Met Gala to build up excitement and anticipation. The 2022 Met Gala theme was “In America, an anthology of fashion,” with the dress code following gilded glamour, a nod to the Gilded Age in New York City between 1870 and 1890.

Theme
Fashion’s biggest night announced that the upcoming theme will be celebrating the work of Karl Lagerfeld.
According to fashion guru Andrew Bolton of the Costume Institute, topics have frequently teetered between “thematic shows and monographic ones of a single designer. We always try to have shows on the menu that are always changing and cover both past and present topics.”
This year is no exception, focusing on the latter and highlighting fashion icon Karl Lagerfeld. (We do miss the icon, don’t we?)
Although the theme has been used in the past, the choice this year has received mixed reviews from celebrities and fans alike due to the controversial history of the late designer.
Karl, the former creative director of Chanel, passed away in 2019 from complications of pancreatic cancer.
According to the Met announcement, “Karl Lagerfeld: A Line of Beauty” will explore the artistic methodology and stylistic vocabulary of Karl Lagerfeld’s designs through recurring themes spanning more than 65 years.
For his final collection in 2019, Andrew Bolton, the head curator of the Metropolitan Museum of Art, said “every single design in his life was a sketch.” And when I saw the drawings, I thought, “These are so charming, whimsical, and impressionistic.”
I mean, of course, the designer has to be celebrated for his work.
The Co-Chairs
It’s time to roll out the red carpet for the 2023 Met Gala Co-Chairs.
As we approach the first Monday in May, Vogue announces that Dua Lipa, Michaela Cole, Penélope Cruz, and tennis champ Roger Federer will serve as the event’s official hosts alongside (obviously) editor-in-chief Anna Wintour.
Previous co-chairs for the gala have included celebrities such as Lady Gaga, Blake Lively, Ryan Reynolds, and Lin-Manuel Miranda.

Where?
The style extravaganza is set to take place in New York City. According to Vogue, the evening’s theme in honor of Karl will be a chance for all the esteemed guests to salute one of fashion’s greats and an exhibition titled “Karl Lagerfeld”.
Bolton was given the task of turning Lagerfeld’s creative mind into an exhibition.
I can’t wait to see how outrageously creative and enormous the event is going to be.

The fashion gods have shown mercy on you and me! For the year 2023, fashion enthusiasts will once again be able to watch everything on Vogue’s live stream.
Although the hosts of this year’s red carpet have not yet been announced, Hamish Bowles, Vanessa Hudgens, an actor and singer, and La La Anthony, a television personality, interviewed guests as they arrived at the Met last year.

The Guest List
The guest list is kept secret until the evening before the event. However, regular attendees include Beyoncé, Lady Gaga, Madonna, and Rihanna, among others. Designers typically attend with their inspirations: think Kate Moss and Marc Jacobs, or Nicolas Ghesquière and Emma Stone of Louis Vuitton.
And of course, our Kardashian sisters must show up to the glam event. I mean, how can it be a fashion affair without Kylie?

On May 5, 2023, the exhibition will be open to the public. Through July 16, 2023, it will be on display.
What Does Anna Say?
Even though the stunning outfits that the stars don have become the main draw for style enthusiasts around the world, the dress code is determined by a theme that changes each year, and Wintour, of course, has the final say.
The Anna Wintour Costume Center is the formal name of the exclusive fundraiser for the Metropolitan Museum of Art’s Costume Institute. It is named after Vogue’s editor-in-chief, who has served on the gala’s committee since 1995.
