The Oscars 2023 were and will be, without a doubt, one of the largest award functions of the year! From winning awards and getting emotional to Jimmy Kimmel’s unmatched humor, the Dolby Theatre in Los Angeles saw a lot of emotions. The introduction of the Oscars 2023 cannot be started without mentioning Everything, Everywhere, All at Once, which won a whopping 7 awards! Well, they deserved it. Apart from that, India won in two categories, including best original song and best documentary film. It was indeed a great evening for the Asian actors who have broken stereotypes and showed that anything can be achieved with talent. Let’s look at some of the best moments from the 2023 Oscars!
The red carpet is not so red!
That’s Right! The Oscars team decided to change the color of the red carpet this year. According to sources, the attendees and celebrities were also not aware of the change until a few days earlier. The color was a champagne shade similar to beige. There were memes all over the internet warning that violence might take place following the famous Chris Rock slap that took place last year. Nobody knows the actual reason behind why this decision was taken, but Jimmy Kimmel said in a video sarcastically that the champagne-colored carpet is proof that no violence or bloodshed will take place at the Oscars! The Everything, Everywhere star, Jamie Lee Curtis, joked on Twitter that the carpet would match her drapes, which it actually did.
Jimmy Kimmel’s humor was lost on Malala?
Guess who the host was? Here’s a hint! Someone whose show we never get tired of watching! Jimmy Kimmel! The guy is known for his sense of humor, and he surely did not disappoint the audience and viewers as the host of the Oscars in 2023. He joked about political topics like the lack of female directors among the nominees and social media memes of Austin Butler’s Elvis Presley voice. His monologue is worth a watch! Jimmy Kimmel was an unexpected surprise for all the viewers, as he has already hosted the event twice before. Well, actually, it was a surprise for him as well! The highlight of his hosting was when he tried out his humor on Malala Yousafzai. At the 2023 Oscars, Malala Yousafzai was asked about Harry Styles! Wow. Social media was divided on whether Harry Styles spit on Chris Pine and Jimmy Kimmel went on to ask this question to Malala Yousafzai. She replied back sarcastically, saying, “I only talk about peace”.
A Birthday Celebration
Don’t you love it when something awesome happens on your birthday? James Martin must have felt the same way on the night of the Oscars in 2023. The moment started with An Irish Goodbye winning the Academy Award for Best Live-Action Short Film. After the three recipients of the award delivered an emotional and heartfelt speech, something unexpected happened. All three of them started singing Happy Birthday” to the star, James Martin. People slowly joined in, and the biggest names in Hollywood were wishing James Martin well. This birthday song definitely filled the air with celebration and festive vibes. Later, Spencer Althouse mentioned in one of his tweets how iconic he found this moment to be.
The “NATTU NATTU” performance left everyone grooving
It was a double celebration for India as the introduction of the performance of Nattu Nattu was given by the gorgeous Deepika Padukone. She arrived in a beautiful black mermaid-tail gown. During the introduction, the actress had to take several pauses to make room for the loud hoots and cheers for the performance. Rahul Sipligunj and Kaala Bhairava dancing to the song Nattu Nattu while wearing suspenders is a visual delight, and the energy both of them had in the music video makes everyone dance. The audience could not wait to watch a live performance of the two recreating the iconic song. After the performance was over, the two actors, Rahul and Kaala, received a standing ovation from the audience, and the room was re-energized. The song winning the Oscar for “Best Original Song” in 2023 was just the cherry on top!
Rihanna’s Queen Moment
Rihanna was in the headlines for her Super Bowl halftime performance when she announced her pregnancy in a gorgeous all-red outfit. She decided to take the stage by storm again by serving the audience with a live performance! Similar to the Super Bowl, the stage of the Oscars was in the air for Queen Rihanna. Her ‘lift me up’ live performance was too literal, and we cannot complain! What made the moment even more memorable was A$AP Rocky cheering for his child’s mother-to-be!
