Unable to get over your past love? Here are a few things that can make you feel better!

Love is a beautiful thing. The world around you seems to be so much more than just great; you have someone to share your thoughts and feelings with. You hang out almost all the time and take care of one another, but just as a person can fall in love, one can fall out of love too. But usually, when two people part ways, it is not easy. Things may turn ugly and remain with you for the rest of your lives. So what can one do when they are not able to let go of their past love? That is what this piece talks about.

How to overcome your dilemmas and let go of your past love?

As you gradually digest the fact that a person with whom you have spent so much time is no longer with you, you might just swallow a lump in your throat. Things become hard to believe, but one cannot change what has happened; therefore, after a certain period of mourning and realization, a person should look forward to the better prospects of life, make better goals, and become a better human being.

There is no shortcut to success, and successfully letting go of your pain is also some kind of achievement. How do you overcome your dilemmas and move forward? Listed below are some of the things that might help you get better:

Acceptance

Acceptance is very important. Accepting the hard reality that you and your partner are no longer the same and no longer together may feel very tough, but it will take some time to digest the fact slowly and steadily. It is critical to understand that if it had not been broken off at the time, things could have gotten much worse. The toxicity would have gotten into your head and could have messed up your mental peace.

Realization

Now there comes a period, where you question yourself every now and then about the shortcomings of the relationship, blame yourself, and find fault with your ex-partner. You need to realize that now it is of no use to ponder them. If you can’t stop your mind from wandering around the field of unhappiness, try to find answers to your questions without disturbing your ex-partner’s space. Observe things, and internalize the situation, but also realize what areas were where you could have been better, where your partner could have been better, and how the relationship could have been better. And once you realize it, take baby steps toward the path of a stable heart.

Getting new hobbies

Since a phase like this can even turn the most intelligent people dumb, it is really important to know that you should not derail from your healthy lifestyle. Even the fittest ones have a weight drop, and people tend to adhere to a toxic lifestyle, which many might mistake for “fun,” but is really not. Therefore, you can get new hobbies—any kind of activity that would keep you out of that zone. Begin reading books, enroll in classes such as dance, drama, or singing; learn to cook; perhaps begin gardening; there is nothing impossible in this world; do the most unusual things and stand out from the crowd!

Unhearing others

During such a time, it will be quite common that you hear about your past love here and there; try to take that sportingly and don’t take it to heart. It might not be as easy as it sounds, and there are many other people who may try to invade your personal space, so you need to make them understand their boundaries. It is your story, and only you have the right to tell and talk about it.

Detaching

Once you feel you are capable of handling things, gradually begin to detach yourself. You do not need to hear two cents about anything related to your past love from others. Also, you may have the things of your ex-partner, which carry a lot of memories, but it is your choice whether you keep them with you or not. Parting with elements such as feelings and past love is not easy, but hang in there! This, too, shall pass.

Closure

Getting closure from the other person involved is very important. Sometimes you may not get a proper response from the other side; in that case, you should have closure from your side at the very least. Once you begin to detach and find closure for yourself in your acceptance and realization, you will be happy; if not, you will have a stable and conscious mindset.

Have compassion

Lastly, you should be kind and compassionate even in times like this. It is important to keep your heart open and accept new realities. Times like this can actually make you selfish; harbor loves for yourself as well as others. Have mercy and thankfulness in your soul; learn to forgive certain things, certain people, and yourself.
