Here, at NYGal, we want to hear from you. We firmly believe that sharing our experiences and opinions with each other can greatly improve our understanding of the world around us and in turn make real change happen. We are looking for captivating storytelling and deep worldly analysis through opinion pieces and personal essays that’ll help our audience heal, create opinions, and motivate them to move forward in positive ways. Understanding the world is vital to changing it!

Pieces that we choose to publish will be paid.

If you want to be a part of this movement, here’s how you can pitch to us:

Opinion Piece

New York Gal Opinion piece is a well thought out, analytical, and authentic. We don’t want to publish an opinion that has been normalized through the media. We want original ideas and new angles. You must have evidence and the idea must be presented in a transparent way, so we understand who you are as an individual.

This piece must not be previously published anywhere else. Let us know if you have pitched this piece to multiple publications.

Personal Essay

An NYGal Personal Essay should be told in the first person. The piece should be raw, compelling, and emit some sort of emotion from the readers of the piece. We love diversity, as NYC is a melting pot, so writers sharing stories of race, gender, sexuality, disability, and mental health are encouraged to apply. We’re looking for unique voices with real stories based on love, sex, relationships, careers, money, body image, or life experiences.

This piece must not be previously published anywhere else. Let us know if you have pitched this piece to multiple publications.

For both Opinions &  Personal Essays, a good pitch will:

  • Tell about your piece in the form of a summary.
  • Tell us why YOU should be informing our audience about this subject. What special connection do you have to this piece?
  • Tell us why this story matters.
  • Include a brief outline of the piece.
  • In the subject line include clearly what you are pitching.
  • Include writing experience and samples if available.
